Rooff Break The Stereotypes Of The Construction Industry

Rooff’s Quantity Surveyor Tom Kyprianou and Business & Marketing Assistant Lucy Dunne attended the Build Your Future event at Barking Riverside where they presented to local Barking secondary school pupils alongside other industry professionals.

Tom and Lucy gave an insight into the industry while also explaining to the students that the careers available in construction are not just the stereotype jobs most people think of when they think of the industry, but there are a wide variety of roles on offer from craft or operational roles through to estimators, surveyors and site managers.

They also emphasised the fact that there are many opportunities available for women in construction in an attempt to break the stigma that the industry is male dominated. According to GoConstruct women make up 14% of the industry with the hope of this number to steadily increase in the coming years.

The event proved to be a success with all the students engaging in the presentations and asking questions about the industry.
