Apprentices are the future. This applies to all industries but is extremely relevant to the Construction and Built Environment sector, where there are many diverse apprenticeships that can accelerate your career into the industry.
Our aim at Rooff is to inform as many young people as we can on the benefits of working in construction and the different career pathways available. So, when we started building a residential development for Islington Council just off Essex Road, we approached the nearby City of London Academy Islington to ask if we could deliver an assembly around careers in the sector. We then arranged for two of our apprentices from the Rooff Training Academy to present an assembly alongside our Development Director, Steve Drury and Rooff’s Social Value Coordinator, explaining the opportunities available in the industry and describing their personal experiences as apprentices.
To attract a new generation of talent we must educate students from a young age and give them role models who they can relate to and inspire to be. It was a great opportunity for the year 10 students to hear the journey of our apprentices and how they got to be where they are now. We received a positive response from the students and hope we have encouraged some to consider a future rewarding career in construction.
